Thavalai Adai
I am dedicating this recipe to Mrs. Jayanthi, a very sweet neighbor.
She is a wonderful cook and particularly her sweets are excellent!!!!!!!!!.
She taught me this adai which I like to share with u all my friends......
Give a try and taste this adai........
For this Adai you need
1 cup of raw rice
1/2 cup of Urad dhal
1/2 cup of Thuvar dhal
3 -4 red chillies (Acc. to ur taste)
A pinch of Asafoetida
1 tsp. of Black Pepper
Salt to taste
Oil .
Preparation
Wash and dry the raw rice.
In a pan, fry the thuvar dhal, Urad dhal, Chillies, asafoetida, black pepper slightly till a rich smell comes from it and keep it aside. (I fried everything together )
Now grind the dried rice in a blender coarsely (rava consistency)
Grind the roasted ingredients in the same way .
In a bowl mix all the grinded items together with salt and water. (Batter consistency)
Keep this aside for about 6-7 hrs.
In a heavy bottomed pan, add this batter and keep stirring until you get a dough (vada consistency, you should be able to make balls from them ).
Make sure you keep stirring continously or else they will stick on to your pan.
In a tawa, take a huge ball from that dough and flatten in the tava pressing them well the same procedure as you press for vada. Apply oil on its sides.
When the bottom is well cooked. Flip on to the other side and apply oil .
Thavalai adai is ready to taste................
No side dish is required for this adai. I had it just like that
OPTIONAL : For any type of Adai's avial is the best side dish. You can also serve with any type of chutney.
