kara and Sweet Idiyappam / Indian Rice Noodles

Indian Rice Noodles / Idiyappam


Idiyappam, one of my favorite dish. Mostly they take this Idiyappam with side dishes like kurma and coconut milk. But I love preparing it in these ways.



For this recipe you need


1 cup of Rice Flour (easily available ready made flour)
or Soak the rice in water for about 2 hrs. Drain the water and dry them indoors.Grind it to make a fine powder.
Salt to taste


Preparation


Mix 1 cup of rice flour with the required amount of boiled water and salt.


Knead them into a smooth dough.


Put a small portion of the dough in the Idiayappam mould and press them in Idli Moulds. 


Steam them till they are cooked well.


For Sweet Idiayappam you need 


2 tsp. of grated coconut
1 tsp. of Ghee
Sugar as needed
Roasted cashews ( optional)


Preparation


Mix all the ingredients with the steamed Idiyappam. 


Sweet  Idiyappam is ready to taste............... My favorite dish






For Kara Idiyappam (2 methods)


First method


1 tsp. of oil
1 tsp. of mustard and urad dhal
2 red chillies 
A bunch of curry leaves


Preparation


Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard and urad dhal. When they stop spluttering, add the curry leaves and red chillies. Finally add the steamed Idiyappam and mix them well.


Kara Idiyappam is ready to taste.............


Second Method


1 tsp. of oil 
1 tsp. of mustard and urad dhal
2 red chilllies
1 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder
A bunch of curry leaves


Preparation


Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard and urad dhal. When they stop spluttering, add the curry leaves and red chillies. Add the lemon  extract along with a pinch of turmeric powder .

Finally add the steamed Idiyappam and mix them well.

Kara Idiyappam is ready to taste.............

  5. I love idiyaappams ( especially with a kurma or for breakfast with sweetened coconut milk); this is a nice way of doing both sweet and kaaram at once; nice idea!!!
