MASALA SEMIYA | MASALA SEMIYA RECIPE




 Masala Semiya-  This is one of the simplest and delicious breakfast or dinner recipe that can be prepared in a jiffy. Adding vegetables makes this upma even more healthier. I would say this dish can definitely become a great hit among kids as it resembles noodles . This also is a good lunch box recipe. There are quite few other versions in preparing this, but I find this version of  mine as simple and  delicious. I have not used much of spices if you want an extra punch you can add and adjust spices accordingly. It is very simple and easy to prepare so let's get started.


First stepWash and cut the vegetables required for this dish  . I have used carrot and beans . Chop the onions and tomatoes. Slit two green chillies  and keep it aside.  

Second step : Heat ghee / oil in a pan . Add mustard seed, when it stops spluttering add urad dal along with few curry leaves and saute for a min. Add the slit green chillies , fry for a min. Fry for a min. Add finely chopped onion and saute until they turn translucent. 

Third step : Now add the chopped tomatoes and veggies  along with  spice powders,allow them to get cooked well.

Fourth Step  : Pour in sufficient amount of water,add salt and close the pan . When it starts boiling add the semiya (roasted)and keep it stirring gently . 


Fifth Step : Allow the semiya to cook for about 10 - 15 mins in a medium flame. Once done remove from heat. Serve it hot and enjoy.

Masala Semiya is a simple and delicious recipe that can be prepared in a jiffy. 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of roasted semiya
  • 1 medium sized carrot
  • 6 to 7 nos. beans
  • 1 onion - sliced thinly
  • 1 tomato - chopped finely
  • 2 green chillies - slit lengthwise
  • A sprig of curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. of chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. of coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp. of garam masala powder
  • 2 tbsp. of ghee /  Oil
  • Salt

Method

Slice the onions . Wash and cut the vegetables and tomatoes . Keep it aside.
Heat oil/ghee  in a pan , add mustard seed when it starts spluttering add the urad dal along with curry leaves. Add the split green chillies .Fry for a min. 
Add in the chopped vegetable and tomatoes along with  spice powders,allow them to cook well. Once done pour in 2 cups of water along with salt . Close the pan and allow it to boil.
When  the water gets boiling add the semiya gradually and keep stirring gently.
Allow the semiya to cook for about 10 mins. under medium flame.
Finally remove from heat . Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • I have used roasted vermicelli (store bought) . 
  • You can add bay leaf, cardamom, cloves for an extra flavor. 
  • You can also add  ginger-garlic paste  while sauteing the onions for more taste.
  • Along with carrot , beans you can also add peas and potatoes.
  • Adjust the spice powders according to your taste buds.
